Paediatric renal tumours in Port Harcourt: A five-year retrospective study

Wilms’ tumour is the most common among renal tumours in paediatric population. In Africa, data on pediatric are rare. This study aims to highlight challenges and peculiarities management of a resource-poor setting. Materials Methods five-year retrospective conducted at University Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital. Ethical approval for was sought gotten from hospital’s ethical committee. The information includes history, duration symptoms, examination findings, age patient, stage disease, intraoperative number chemotherapies, post-operative complications. collected analyzed presented tables charts. Results: Twenty-eight patients met inclusion criteria; 17 males 11 females. mean 3 years 6 months median months. range 9 16 years. Most between after onset symptoms. symptom painless abdominal mass which present all patients. late as fifty percent with Stage 4 disease. had nephrectomy followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. Only three alive five treatment. Conclusion: Mean presentation 3.5years. Late advanced common. Painless presentation. histological diagnosis Wilm’s tumour. We carried out before chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
